A Shiba Inu is a hybrid between the Shiba and the Japanese Akita who has been the inspiration for many fictional characters, including Scooby-Doo.There are three types of Shiba Inus: akita, nippon seru and akita-nippon seru. The first two are defined by their coat type, while the third is defined by its ancestry.The Akita is more robust, has a shorter coat, with a more narrow muzzle and a rounded head. Nippon Seru is more refined, with less physical strength but more intellectual capacity, and a longer coat; it looks like an akita crossed with another dog to get it. Akita Nippon Seru is the most common type of Shiba Inu in the United States. However, there are also lots of other varieties that havent been bred as much because its difficult to find someone who knows about every dog in Japan and all its genetic variations.
